WEAVING TIME - Paolo Campagnolo was born and raised in Rome, where every wall tells a story. For years, he worked as a restorer of frescoes and mural paintings, learning to read history through cracks and faded pigments. That intimate knowledge of decay, of what endures beneath the surface, shaped his vision as an artist.
The flaking layers of old plaster, the dust of color, the luminous traces of gold—these became his visual vocabulary. What once was a patient act of restoration has turned into a personal aesthetic: a mosaic made of cracks, fragments, and reflections. In his works, the wall is no longer a boundary, but a living skin, breathing, shimmering, remembering.
Italy, the country of art with a capital “H” in History, runs through his imagination. From the Byzantine echoes of Ravenna, the gilded light of Roman basilicas, and the frescoed ceilings of Florence, to the mosaics of Sicily, his pieces gather centuries of visual memory and translate them into the present.
Campagnolo’s technique fuses mastery and intuition, fragility, and strength. Metals, pigments, and fragments of time weave together into a chromatic grid where light becomes material and memory becomes form. His art doesn’t hide the wounds of time—it makes them visible, turning corrosion into beauty and restoration into creation.
In Campagnolo’s universe, time is not something that escapes, even if, as Virgilio wrote in Georgics, Tempus fugit - “time flies.” Instead, it is something that can be woven. Weaving Time is his way of shaping duration into matter - transforming what passes into what remains and finding beauty in the act of repair itself.
